The editor of Cheap Eats, Nina Rousseau named 10 of the best and most innovate dishes for $15 or less, which included Horoki's Daikon salad with sashimi for $11.50 and Cookie's mussel cakes with green mango salad for $14.50. These dishes are probably not filling enough on their own and they tend to be entree size, which you would expect cost around $15. Never the less, the book has some quality recommendations, such as Horoki, Bar Lourinha, and Pellegrini's (of course). There are many that I haven't been too and am keen to try. Having to save for my honeymoon this year, I'm going to reserve my Good Food Guide 2007 for special occasions and have Cheap Eats as my bible!

Recently I went to Dymocks to look for the "Cooking of China" book that
my sister has because I just got married and I want to start being able
to cook better food for my hubby. What better than to start with my own
cuisine.
Unfortunately, they didn't have the book but I came across a very clean
cut simple booked called "Harumi's Japanese Home Cooking" (see pictures).
I looked through the book and saw that she had a recipe for baked
cheesecake, I snapped the book and went straight to the counter.

The book is making it's round at the office at the moment.. But I've
photocopied the baked cheese cake, chilled noodles with pork and cod roe
with noodles recipes for this weekend. Probably will use my salmon roe
instead of the cod roe :)

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-14T00:02:01Z</dcterms:modified>

Entertainment Book 2005

Every year since 2002, I've bought or had access to a Greater Melbourne Entertainment Book / Card. It is absolutely the best thing. The book is packed with loads of discount for eateries around Melbourne and nearby towns, including Yarra Valley. Every year, popular and (in)famous restaurants seem to appear in the book. Their frequent updates via emails is mouth-watering as well!

Recently, I received an email for a Yalumba Handpicked "Tradition meets Innovation" Luncheon hosted by Watergrill Seafood, Grill & Oyster Bar for $75 each person, reduced from $105! A few weeks back they added discounts for One Fitzroy Street and the Long Room. the book.

Haven't had the chance to go to One Fitzroy Street, but Mikey highly recommends it.

I have been to a "new" restaurant recently, except for Taipan Chinese Restaurant in Doncaster East (and the usual suspects - Torimatsu, Grand Taipei (Box Hill), Shoya, Langley Café, Relaq and David and Camy). I bought a Laurent crème brulee and chocolate mousse cake for the occasion. That was really rich and melt-in-your-mouth texture. That reminds me, I wonder if there is a place in Melbourne that serves raw lobster / crayfish... I love lobster only if it is raw or in garlic sauce.... YUMM! Yes I'm not really a seafood connoisseur. Let me know if you know any place!

Going to Cafe Segovia, City tonight!!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-07-06T05:47:44Z</dcterms:modified>

The Science and Lore of the Kitchen - New Edition

A friend forward this to me.
